ROSEVEAR Oswald Noel (Ossie) (8 February 1996 Aged 84)

 

Ossie enlisted in 7th Field Brigade AFA in 1929 passing through the ranks to be commissioned as a Lieutenant on April 1940. After going on full time duty with the now 7th Field Regiment RAA (Militia) on 1 October1941, he was promoted to temporary Captain on 26 December 1941, the rank being confirmed on 1 September 1942 and the Unit now being known as 7th Australian Field Regiment (AIF).

 

On the disbanding of the Regiment on 17 November 1943 he was transferred to 13th Australian Field Regiment (Jungle Division) AIF on 10 December 1943, transferring to the Reserve of Officers on 7 November 1945.
 

Ossie rejoined the Regiment on 1 May 1948 on the reforming of the CMF. On his promotion to Major on 21 December 1951 he was made Battery Commander of R Battery which was raised on the introduction of National Service. He moved the Battery to a new Drill Hall in Hornsby, becoming the nucleus of 21 Field Regiment RAA which was formed on 11 March 1952. Ossie returned to 7 Field to administer, Command from 12 May 1952 to 5 June 1952 becoming 2IC before going on the Reserve of Officers on 25 June 1954.

 

Ossie's younger brother Roy also served with the Brigade and was killed in action at El Alemein, Egypt in July 1942 while serving as a WO2 with 2/4th LAA Regiment AIF.
